Girls Twist Again..... The plait is back

The plait is back

This hairstyle may be synonymous with uniforms and knee-high socks but this tousled textured update is way too cool for school - think more Prada than Pippi Longstocking, says beauty editor AMY PACKER

RECENTLY sitting on a bus full of girls who were discussing the rules at school, I was reminded of the many bizarre regulations we were subjected to as teens.
Among them was a ban on patent shoes, the decree that we could only wear navy-blue knickers, a veto on jewellery of any kind and, seemingly the most important of all (enforced by the nuns with threats of detention for non-compliance), hair had to be tied back at all times.
The result was that I spent the best part of a decade with a French plait and haven't worn one since the day I ditched my uniform and headed for sixth-form college.
But this year's London Fashion Week stylists clearly didn't get the memo about my phobia of all things braided, and have been busy knotting up a storm.
Thankfully, for those of us who have avoided the look steadfastly since our final reports, the style is more Prada than Pippi Longstocking these days.
